On Wednesday, April 19th Black Voice News hosted the first in a series of social media events highlighting components of our Centerpoint Series, The Healing Power of Cultural Connections.

The event was a prelude to the release of our first report in the series titled, The Thick Red Line - A History of Redlining in the IE scheduled for publication in three parts beginning Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Among the many institutional and systemic inequalities that have harmed the Black community, nothing is more insidious or continues to have such lasting impacts on nearly every aspect of Black life  than the practice of Redlining.

Yolanda Moses stands outside her parents’ home in Perris on April 20, 2023. Working-class and people of Color migrated from Los Angeles to Perris and Moreno Valley. Moses said her father moved their family from Compton to Perris in 1959 when she was a child, and said that part of the reason for the move was that he did want his four daughters to grow up around gang violence and crime. Their home became a centerpoint for community organization as well as a safe space for family members and close friends who moved from urban areas to Perris to begin a new life.
